because Science never sleeps, because simple experiments are easy to conduct, because small satisfactions in service of Science, however trivial, are to be savored.

The previously cited malady, of the grain at the fulcrum being cross-ways was addressed. Another flaw was discovered too, namely that making the dowel, upon which the thing hinges, looser.  That was very important.  In the earlier failure it was quite snug, as is usually desired for dowels.  This, however, added an expansive pressure precisely at the point of greatest weakness.  Making this one went so smoothly that it would be tempting to think the universe was crying out for this outcome, that the idea needed to become a thing, that some cosmic void is assuaged.  If somehow this were to become the wooden pliers that saved Cincinnati such a view will be supported.  Until that time though it will live in comparative anonymity.
